Mercier Therapy Case Study: Fertility Support

Introduction

A, who was a 34-year-old woman at the time of her initial consultation, presented to our office in January of 2024 for support for fertility after over a year of trying to conceive. Her medical history included two cesarean sections and one miscarriage, which occurred between the births of her two children. Her menstrual cycle fluctuated between 23 and 28 days, often accompanied by heavy bleeding and clots.

A’s primary goal was to enhance fertility naturally. After a thorough health history review and discussion of her goals, we agreed that Mercier Therapy could provide support by addressing pelvic organ mobility and alleviating tension related to scar tissue. She began her Mercier Therapy protocol in March 2024, consisting of 1 session per week for 6 consecutive weeks.

Additional Support:

Upon completing the 6-week Mercier Therapy protocol, A reported that her menstrual cycle had become more consistent in length, ranging from 23 to 25 days. However, the cycle was still shorter than ideal, most likely indicating low progesterone production. To gain deeper insight into her hormonal status, we conducted the following hormone tests:

  • Cycle Day 3 Estradiol, FSH, and LH: Results were within normal ranges.

  • Cycle Day 17 Progesterone: Progesterone levels were on the lower end of the normal range at 11.

To address low progesterone, we added Platt Pro Progesterone Cream to her treatment plan using 1 pump applied to the skin starting 48 hours after ovulation until menstruation begins. Over the next three cycles, the patient’s menstrual cycle lengthened to 26-27 days, a positive indicator of improvement in progesterone levels.

To further evaluate her hormone metabolism and overall hormonal health, a DUTCH test was performed. Test results showed low levels of DHEA, which is important for egg health and supporting ovarian reserve. To further support A’s hormonal health and improve fertility, a DHEA + Pregnenolone protocol was initiated based on her weight and age.

Outcome

After two months on the added DHEA + Pregnenolone protocol, the patient reported a positive pregnancy test! Following this exciting news, I recommended that her OB closely monitor her progesterone levels and provide appropriate support throughout her pregnancy and that she could discontinue the DHEA and Pregnenolone.

This case highlights the multifaceted nature of fertility care. The combination of Mercier Therapy to address pelvic health, targeted hormonal support through progesterone supplementation, and further refinement of the treatment plan with DHEA and Pregnenolone proved to be effective in supporting the patient’s fertility. The case also underscores the importance of addressing both structural and hormonal factors when treating patients with a history of cesarean sections and fertility challenges.

Honoring the Fertility Challenges of Women

A’s successful outcome is a reminder of the resilience of the body and the potential for natural interventions like Mercier Therapy to play a crucial role in fertility support. With personalized care and attention to hormonal balance, many women may find hope in their fertility journeys, even after previous challenges.

In honor of Pregnancy, Infant, and Child Loss Awareness Month in October, this story is shared with the patient’s blessing to bring light to the struggles many women face while trying to grow their families. It serves as a reminder that hope is always present, and the body can achieve amazing things with the right support.
